We decided to create a separate tab on the blog for easier access. The following book will be the next review.within the next couple of weeks:

ASG Show and Tell

We're back with part 2 of this month's ASG meeting. Normally the show and tell part is held towards the end of the meeting, but due to the fact that there was a guest teaching (see previous post), it was moved up.

These are just a few projects that members brought to sew/show and tell:

Preview of monthly ASG meeting

We had a great time learning how to create/sew an Origami top. One member did a 7 block, the other a 6-block. :-). One good thing about this project is that you don't have to deal with fitting issues because you're using your own measurements right out of the gate!

Also, a serger was used, but it's not mandatory. You can also use the zig-zag stitch off your machine if you don't have a serger.

 Here's a sneak peak:
Sample 6 block from the instructor's creation.
Another view: 6-block top made by the instructor.
Another Origami sample-this one a dress.
 Getting it together.

 Finished product of a 7-block.
 Finished product of a 6-block.

Rough, but what can you do? This is how it looked earlier this evening:

Bold and Beautiful book review

About 3 weeks ago, I promised I'd review this book (click link) and report the review.
I recently reviewed it on Here's the link:

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice: Easy with sewing experience, April 9, 2013

This review is from: Bold & Beautiful Easy-Sew Clothes: 15 Unstructured Designs That Fit and Flatter Every Shape, and Are Simplicity Itself to Make (Paperback)
I received a demo copy a few weeks ago.I reviewed the book, patterns and the DVD.

1) Most of the sewing will be straight seams.
2) CD.
3) CD has measurements in UK and US measurements (a huge plus).
4) I like the fact that the pattern pieces are shown laid out which is very beneficial to beginners.
5) Separate chapter on the various pockets and how to sew them
6) Separate chapter on sewing techniques
7) Pictures average sized (not too small). I tend to like larger pictures just to make sure, but that's me. :-)
8) I love the fact that the clothes look comfortable, designed for all sizes (especially us plus sizes-YIPPIE)!

Someone mentioned my first one, but for number 1
1) Too many pattern pieces and may be overwhelming for a beginner. One would need some sewing experience.
The least pattern pieces I found with one outfit was 4, the most pattern pieces to one pattern was 20.
2) A couple of patterns say one number (example: one says 15, but it's really more pieces because you have to use a piece more than once).

Concluding, I'd probably start with patterns that have less pieces and work my way up. Since I'm still a beginner, I'd probably practice some of the stitches that are needed in the garment (which the author lets you know upfront).

The book (as mentioned) is very well priced considering it also includes a DVD. Thanks St. Martin's Press. :-)

A little frustrated with blogger!

In case you're wondering why only ONE post is showing up and the others suddenly appear under the "Older Posts" tab (mind you, they aren't all old)--well, after doing a post early this AM, Came back to the blog later and noticed that all of my posts have "disappeared."

Been troubleshooting through "settings," goggled the issue, even got some great advise from Karen @ Sew Many Ways. Unfortunately, nothing's working.

Also used the "feedback" button on blogger. Of course, there's no way to contact them so you can only pray and hope for the best that it's some sort of technical SNAFU with them and they'll resolve it!

I've had problems on and off with them before and eventually somehow they manage to resolve on it;'s own. Frustrating because I have several updates I want to share but FOR NOW, only one post is showing.

Go Figure! OK NOW IT'S SHOWING "TWO." WHOOOO! (Still a bummer!!)

A few of my many favs in blog land: Diary of a Sewing Fanatic and Miss Celie's Pants recently blogged about the Great British Sewing Bee.

YES, it's a show. But what may not be well known is that there's a book that documents this show as well:
